Part Five: Change Your Beliefs | Transform Your Life
False Belief: God is Distant
But let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…(Romans 12:2 NLT)
1. Wrong beliefs can cause me to feel distant from God.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. (Psalm 139:7-8 NIV)
“I am a God who is near,” says the Lord. “I am also a God who is far away. No one can hide where I cannot see him,” says the Lord. “I fill all of heaven and earth,” says the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:23-24 NCV)
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). (Matthew 1:23 NIV)
Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20 NKJV)
And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. (Matthew 27:50-51 NIV)
Since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a NEW…and LIVING way…opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God… (Hebrews 10:19-22 NIV)
I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Now God’s presence is with people, and he will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself
will be with them and will be their God.” (Revelation 21:3 NCV)
2. Sin can cause me to feel distant from God.
He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” (Genesis 3:10 NIV)
Run away from sexual sin… You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit who is in you. (1 Corinthians 6:18-19 NCV)
3. Emotional pain can cause me to feel distant from God.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; (Psalm 23:4 NKJV)
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 NIV)
Surely I am with you always… (Matthew 28:20 NIV)
Press in to God’s Presence
When Moses went into the Tent, the pillar of cloud would always come down and stay at the entrance of the Tent while the Lord spoke with Moses. Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud at the entrance of the Tent, they stood and worshiped, each person at the entrance of his own tent. The Lord spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but Moses’ young helper, Joshua son of Nun, did not leave the Tent. (Exodus 33:9-11 NCV)
One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life… (Psalm 27:4 NIV)
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8 NKJV)
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 NIV)
