Welcome to my online blog for our Vineyard Life Journal!
This forum IS NOT for debate or to correct each other, but to share our insights and observations. (Actually, I will be keeping a pretty tight rein on the comments section, and I will have the ability to block trolls, spammers or those who just want to stir the pot.)
Before you comment or read what I have posted, read today’s passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… (If you read mine first, it may taint what you think.)

2 Samuel 21 David’s epilogue… Chapters 21-24
David hands over seven members of Saul’s family to satisfy the Gibeonites’ need for blood/revenge. Note there are two different Mephibosheths… One is the son of Jonathan that David took in, the other Mephibosheth is the son of Aiah’s daughter Rizpah (21:8).
2 Samuel 22 David’s song of praise… (insert entire song here!)
2 Samuel 23 David’s last words and recap of David’s Mighty Warriors. (David’s death isn’t recorded until 1 Kings 2:10.)
1 Thessalonians 1:1 “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.”
In 2 Samuel 23 we have David’s last words… yet his death isn’t until1 Kings 2:10, in just a few chapters…
I’m not 100% that the song of David in chapter 22 isn’t a repeat in that it refers to David defeating Saul… Nonetheless, David’s last words seem to have been a song, followed by a prophetic word 23:1 “the inspired utterance of David…”
“when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power…” That’s what I want… to bring the Good News not just with words, but with power! Such an encouraging opening chapter to Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians!
Lord, this weekend, pour out your power!
