Welcome to my online blog for our Vineyard Life Journal!
This forum IS NOT for debate or to correct each other, but to share our insights and observations. (Actually, I will be keeping a pretty tight rein on the comments section, and I will have the ability to block trolls, spammers or those who just want to stir the pot.)
Before you comment or read what I have posted, read today’s passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… (If you read mine first, it may taint what you think.)

Here is my SOAP for today, Tuesday, April 24, 2018
1 Samuel 28:5 “When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. 6 He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. 7 Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her…” 15 “Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”
1 Samuel 29:6 “So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.” 8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?” 9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel of God…”
Psalm 109:3 “… they attack me without cause. 4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. 5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.”
Matthew 11:11 “Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist.”
23 “Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
Powerful words of affirmation from Achish to David, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you…” And, “You have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel of God…”
That’s a powerful statement, if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day…”
Ok, let’s talk about a medium summoning Samuel from the dead… It seems that it really was the spirit of Samuel… The medium actually brought Samuel up from the dead… and he and Saul had an actual conversation…
For the record, I prefer the “main and the plain” of the Bible… I don’t go looking for obscurities or wiggle room… Just because this happened doesn’t make it good or right. Any time we look to another source, other than God himself, I think it open us up to trouble. We know for sure that demons (and the devil himself) spoke several times in the New Testament, to Jesus specifically.
I would advocate for steering clear of spiritists and mediums and tarot cards and astrologists… all of it is misplaced, looking to another source, other than God. Does or can God use those things? Perhaps. I think God can use anything… but it’s unwise at best. Demonic at worst. For the record, I put “fleeces” in a similar category… like “casting lots.” Just because it was in the Bible doesn’t mean it was best practice.
Moving on… Take note of how Jesus spoke of John the Baptist and how Achish spoke of David. A good name is worth more than gold for sure.
Lord give me/us a discerning heart as we read Your word…
