Welcome to my online blog for our Vineyard Life Journal!
This forum IS NOT for debate or to correct each other, but to share our insights and observations. (Actually, I will be keeping a pretty tight rein on the comments section, and I will have the ability to block trolls, spammers or those who just want to stir the pot.)
Before you comment or read what I have posted, read today’s passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… (If you read mine first, it may taint what you think.)

Here is my SOAP for today, Tuesday, April 10, 2018
1 Samuel 8:3-7 “But his [Samuel’s] sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have. But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.”
1 Samuel 9 Samuel and Saul meet…
1 Samuel 10 Saul is anointed as king of Israel.
2 Corinthians 10:10 “For some say, “His [Paul’s] letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.”
It’s so sad that Israel has turned away from God… and wants a King, “like all the other nations.”
Saul seems humble enough (at the start.) He says essentially the same thing as Gideon… 21 “Saul answered, “But am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?”
Be careful what you ask for of the Lord… God gave them a King… The problem is, Israel was not like “all the other nations.” They chose Saul based upon his appearance (tall and handsome.)
He goes from chasing down donkeys to being anointed King of Israel. God loves to do that.
You, oh Lord, are the King of my heart…
