Hello from Colorado,
Last week Marcie and I (along with Caleb and his wife, Audrey) attended the national Vineyard conference in Anaheim, California. It was a good time to reconnect with some old friends and hear about where the Vineyard movement is headed. We are now back in Colorado, but I’m looking forward to seeing all of you in the next week or so!
We are now in week four of our series from the book of James, Practical Wisdom. This weekend Caleb will be speaking from James chapter 4, focusing on verse 10, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” If you have missed any of this series, all of the messages are posted on our website at dvc.life/messages.
I want to thank you for praying with me about the heroin crisis in our city.
Isaiah 54:17 states, “No weapon formed against us will prevail” (#NoWeapon). I believe in the power of prayer to effect change, and I also believe in doing practical things to make a difference. That’s why we are doing our Tools for School campaign and tutoring kids at our Hope and Discovery Center. It takes both prayer AND action to change things.
We need to raise $15,000 to provide 1,000 kids with all the school supplies they need, along with a new pair of shoes. (That’s only $15 per child! It’s amazing what $15 will purchase when we buy in bulk.) We will be taking up a special offering toward Tools for School this coming weekend during each service. Please prayerfully consider how you can help. You can also sign up to serve at our Back to School Fest on Sunday, August 6th from 5-7P. To sign up and to give, CLICK HERE or go to dvc.life/tools.
If you are interested in hosting or leading a group and would like more information, our Group Leader Training is this coming Saturday or next Thursday. To attend Saturday, July 22nd at 9:30A or Thursday, July 27th at 6:30P REGISTER HERE. You can also email Scott at email@example.com. (Childcare will be provided up to age 10 for the Thursday session only.) You do not need to attend both sessions. Pick the time that works best for you!
We have been asked to partner with StrongerFamilies.org and the WPAFB Chaplains Association to provide some practical training for married couples. July 28-29th: Oxygen for Your Relationship. Click on the listing for more details and to register. (Seating is limited. No childcare available.)
Next weekend (July 29th-30th) we are hosting a Pantry Open House after each service. You will have the opportunity to check out our pantry, meet some of the staff and ask questions. (Did you know we provide groceries to nearly 1,000 households EVERY MONTH in Greene and Montgomery counties?!)
If you are currently serving on our Prayer and Encounter team or would like hear the Lord more clearly REGISTER for our Hearing His Voice class next Wednesday, July 26th. The class meets in the Creative Arts Room in the Family Life Center at 6:30P. If you would like to be part of this team, contact Aurora Newton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Go to dvc.life for information on all of our events, groups and other happenings.
P.S. Some of our students are taking a trip to Panama City Beach next week. (It’s too late to sign up to go…) I wanted to ask you to keep them in prayer. Think of it as a retreat, but they will also be doing outreaches every day!
