I had such a good time last weekend. I had the privilege of speaking at our Barnabas launch event last Saturday morning… I got to share some things that have been on my heart of late. We started the Barnabas group several years ago out of a desire to give opportunity for people over 50 to share their life experience with those who are younger. In essence, to encourage others… to become a “Barnabas.” (His nickname was son of encouragement.) Barnabas encouraged Saul/Paul, so it’s assumed that’s where his nickname came from. I want to be known as an encouraging person!
At our VISION:2017 meeting I spoke about alignment… If you have ever driven a car that is out of alignment, you understand how important that is. I want to ensure that everyone understands where we are headed as a church, and get everyone moving in the same direction. I also asked for help in terms of creating buzz, that is, to share our posts on Facebook and post comments to your pages to help us get the word out regarding all the good things that are happening here at Vineyard Church. I want to thank those of you who have been doing this already. There is a noticeable uptick in the number of shares and views of our posts and there has been a flurry of positive comments. Scott’s video of our VISION:2017 message has over 1,100 views! Many of you have started using the upper main lobby, per our request too. (Our greeters commented on the growing number of people entering upstairs.) There also seems to be a greater level of participation or engagement during worship as well. The past two weekends the congregation was out-singing the band. All of this together helps create momentum behind what we are doing. With Easter just around the corner, and our attempt to pull off a dozen Easter Egg hunts across the city… it takes alignment in all we do to help us move forward. I can’t thank you enough for taking all of this to heart.
A great way to learn more about how you can come into alignment or if you have been wanting to get connected at our church, no matter how long you have been attending, Starting Line is where to begin. It’s a two-week series where you will have the opportunity to meet some of our staff, hear our history, discuss our future vision, ask questions, get connected, and make some friends along the way. It is held in the Lodge during the 11:15A service on the 2nd and 3rd Sunday’s of the month (Feb 12th and 19th). No need to register. Please attend both sessions.
This weekend I will be speaking on David’s attitude toward Saul. Saul did not treat David well… He was jealous of David and he tried to kill him more than once. Through it all, David’s attitude was that it was not his place to retaliate… that Saul was God’s anointed and that he needed to honor him. If you would like to read ahead, look at 1 Samuel 24 and 26.
This month we have a lot of things going on around Vineyard Church. I wanted to take a minute and highlight some of the great ways you can get more involved in February.
All of our Elementary Kids, K-5th grade, are invited to experience larger than life games, food and a Nerf battle. Winter Bash will be on February 18th from 3-5P. Kids are encouraged to bring their BFF’s to the Winter Bash and again to service. Register your kids HERE.
Our groups will launch February 21st and 22nd. We are offering a Women’s study on the Armor of God, Marriage for a Lifetime (for married couples AND those planning to marry), and Widow 2 Widow support group. We also have several home groups available and a couple of men’s groups. Click HERE to find your group!
Open Heavens is THIS Sunday night, February 12th at 7P. This is a great opportunity for us to enjoy an extended time of worship. The atmosphere is faith-filled, with anticipation and expectation. Oftentimes there are prophetic words that are shared, and words of knowledge that ignite times of ministry. I hope you will join us for Open Heavens!
TOMORROW is our monthly Time To Revive outreach (the 2nd Saturday of each month) in partnership with other churches that participated in Revive Dayton. This month’s outreach is 8A at Fairhaven Church (637 E Whipp Rd in Kettering)
I look forward to seeing you this weekend… Please come up and say hello if we haven’t connected in a while. I am usually available before and after all of the services.
