I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I’m guessing some of you may be out of town for the weekend, but many of you are in town, and may even have family staying with you. You are more than welcome to invite your family and friends to church this weekend!
We are starting a new message series this weekend, “Come Let Us Adore Him.” This series will basically follow the Advent calendar. Topics will include hope, love, joy and peace. Advent is a season of preparation… preparing for the birth of Christ (Christmas) and preparing for His return. “Advent” literally means “appearing” or “coming.” I want us all to be prepared! This weekend I will be speaking on how to have a life filled with hope.
We have a page on our website that has all the details for our Christmas Store. You can sign up to serve and donate financially to support our efforts to show God’s love by providing gifts to families in need this Christmas. You can also donate new toys and other gifts simply by bringing them to church with you each weekend.
People often ask why we do things like this… For me it’s pretty simple. Many, many years ago I had this thought that there were going to be kids that would wake up with no gifts to unwrap. I know we can’t fix everything… We can’t provide gifts to every kid in our city. But doing SOMETHING is better than doing nothing.
We have been doing some variation of our Christmas Store for 25 years now. We have thrown big parties with catered dinners… or much simpler options. Regardless, the purpose is the same… to show God’s love to folks in need.
This is only possible with your help. Here’s what I have learned over the years… our church family is a really generous group of people. You write big checks, donate toys and are willing to show up and serve. I am humbled by your generosity!
Of course classic gifts such as dolls and basketballs are always a welcome purchase, but if you have the resources, you can also go over the top by purchasing gift cards, bicycles, iPods, video games or other nicer gifts. It makes me think of the scripture in 1 John 3 that God, “LAVISHES” His love on us! That’s what I want people to experience when they come to our store; A warm welcome, a kind word… free gifts for their children, a meaningful touch… a powerful prayer. We want people to experience God’s love in a very practical way!

We have scheduled a Time To Revive Dayton outreach for the 2nd Saturday of each month in partnership with the other churches that participated in TTR Dayton. Saturday, December 10 at our Riverdale (Dayton) community site, 9A to noon. We are planning to have a TTR outreach on the 2nd Saturday of each month.
I hope to see you this weekend.
