On this Veteran’s Day, I would like to thank the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces, and honor those who have sacrificed their lives in that service. I would also like to thank the families of those who have served and recognize the many sacrifices that they have made while their loved ones were on active duty.
Last weekend was a very special weekend for me. Having two dear friends with us to honor our veterans was very special. Earl Morse, founder of The Honor Flight Network program attended our church 20 years ago when we were meeting at Harshman Station Shopping Center on Harshman Road in Riverside. When Earl shared his idea with me, I simply told him he should do whatever was on his heart. Who knew that years later he would have flown 180,000 veterans to visit the WWII Memorial? Additionally, Dr. Mike Hutchings from Global Awakening shared his passion to see veterans suffering from PTSD to be healed and set free. He also did a training for 30 participants on how to bring healing to those battling PTSD.
This past week has been interesting, to say the least. Some are thrilled with the outcome of the election, others are deeply dismayed. I just continue to focus on the mission God gave me 25 years ago… To show God’s unconditional love to those who are broken and hurting. To the disenfranchised and to those who are hungry. Luke 19:10 says, “The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” People on both sides of the aisle need Jesus. The Great Commission hasn’t changed with a single administration. It’s still to “go and make disciples.” That’s what we are going to do. I invite you to do it with me…
This Sunday (Nov. 13) is our monthly night of worship. We call it Open Heavens. It’s a relaxed time of worship and ministry. The service starts at 7P and will go for about 90 minutes or so. If you have never been to one of these services, come and check it out! (Childcare is provided for nursery to age 5.) Open Heavens is on the 2nd Sunday of each month.
ReviveOHIO Miami County starts this Sunday night, hosted by Ginghamsburg Church. The schedule will be similar to when we hosted it, with daily prayer at 7A, breakfast at 8A followed by outreach training and outreach. Lunch at noon at a different church each day, followed by more outreach, dinner at 5:30P then a corporate celebration at 7P each night. Here is a link for more info: http://www.reviveoh.com. (We will be hosting a follow-up ReviveOHIO Dayton outreach Saturday, December 10 at our Riverdale Campus on N. Main Street in Dayton! More info to come.)
Just to get a few things on your radar… brace yourselves… We have scheduled our Christmas Store hours for December 15-17. This is a great outreach to those who are struggling financially to have a few Christmas presents for their kids. We will soon begin receiving donations. Our Christmas Eve services are Saturday, December 24 at 5 P and 7P. We may also do a Christmas Eve “traveler’s service” on Wednesday, December 21 at 7P (We will confirm that date in a week or two). Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year. We will be doing one service at 10A on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Saturday service on New Year’s Eve will be at 5:30P as usual.
I hope to see you this weekend.
