Last week was a great week for our church family! Friday night was our Back to School Festival where we distributed 600+ sets of school supplies and partnered with Shoes4theShoeless to distribute 606 pairs of new shoes for kids in need. (We donated our remaining school supplies to another group doing a “love they neighbor day” tomorrow in Dayton for them to distribute!) Saturday morning was our monthly Food for Fairborn outreach where we distributed groceries to 100+ families in partnership with Fairborn Primary School and Fairborn First Church of Christ. In addition to our weekly services, we had our Open Heavens night of worship with our friend Robby Dawkins. We had an amazing time of worship and ministry. A huge weekend full of faith, hope, love and generosity! I couldn’t be more proud of our church!
Here is a recap video from the Back to School Festival.
This weekend we are kicking off our new message series, “The Good Life.” This weekend’s topic is, “A Cause for Celebration.” Matthew 25:21 states, “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!” We are going to look at what it really means to “live the good life.”
Also this weekend is UpGrade Weekend! To celebrate this milestone for our kids and teens we will be having a family ice cream social following each service on August 13 & 14!
Tonight is our Women’s Ministry movie night (“Miracles from Heaven” based on a true story) next Friday, August 12, 6:30-9 PM in the FLC. CLICK HERE to view the movie trailer. Bring a snack to share.
Tomorrow (Saturday, August 13) our Barnabas Generation group (age 50+) is hosting a picnic 11 AM to 4 PM at Lofino Park, 640 Grange Hall Road in Beavercreek. Bring a dish to share.
Our Men’s Ministry is having a kickoff/interest meeting Wednesday, August 17 in the Lodge to talk about groups and other events (i.e. camping trip September 24-25!) Mark your calendars now!
One last item I wanted to mention… DSSM has morphed into our Open Heavens nights of worship on the 2nd Sunday of each month. However, we are also providing a more intentional ministry track to run on for those interested. The first session is 8 weeks beginning Monday, September 12, 2016. For more information, CLICK HERE for all the details.
One of my life verses is from Ephesians 4:11-12, “Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”
Our job is to help you find your place in the church and to equip you for ministry!
P.S. This weekend Angie Bailey (pictured below), our First Impressions pastor will be doing transitions. If you are interested in getting involved in serving, but haven’t found your place yet, connect with Angie. She oversees our hospitality team and coffee bar. Both are great first steps in terms of getting involved in serving and connecting with our church family.
In like manner, Joy Harvey is our Children’s pastor. If you are interested in serving in our children’s ministry, contact Joy by CLICKING HERE or simply stop by the ice cream social after church this weekend to connect with her. Scott is always looking for capable musicians for the worship team, and there is always a need for help with sound and tech. Let us know where you would like to serve!
