I am looking forward to being with you this weekend. I attended last weekend, but when I’m not speaking, it’s easy to assume that I’m not there. I enjoy sitting in the front row to support whoever is speaking, but I also take the opportunity to visit the other areas of the church to see how things are going (like the Family Center.) I also like to worship in different parts of the auditorium once in awhile, just to see how it feels, what the sound is like and to engage with different people.
I want you to know how much I enjoy getting to say hello to everyone on the weekend. It’s easy in a large church to go a few weeks without bumping into the same person. You can always feel free to track me down for prayer or just to say hello! (I am usually in the lower lobby after each service.)
This weekend I will be speaking on “Love’s Response.” Jesus was often asked tough questions and put into tough situations, just to see how he would respond. In one instance, a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery, was brought to Jesus and he was asked, “the Law says she should be stoned. What do you say?” His response, “You who is without sin… you throw the first stone.” (John 8). This weekend I want to help us all figure out how to respond in today’s world that is in such turmoil.
This Sunday night bring your family and friends or your small group to our Summer Splash pool party, 6:30-9:30 PM, this Sunday, July 24 at Adventure Reef Water Park (Kettering Rec Center). You will enjoy hot dogs, snacks and ice cream. Bring your swimsuit, towel and flotation devices for a great night of fun and fellowship! This event is FREE! CLICK HERE to register.
Our next Leader Community meeting is Friday, July 29 at 7 PM in the Lodge. We are creating an environment where all of our leaders from various areas of ministry can connect, receive some ministry, training and encouragement. We often will worship together, pray for each other and share testimonies. (But building relationship and community is the main goal!) Bring a side dish or dessert to share.
We are throwing a Back to School Festival, August 5, 6-8 PM at our Riverdale Campus, where we will be distributing school supplies and new shoes while having a great time in the process. This is a very practical way to show God’s kindness to over 500 inner-city kids and their families! If you would like to donate toward purchasing school supply kits, CLICK HERE to donate. Each kit contains all the supplies a student needs to start the school year. $30 for each kit purchased.
While we’re on the topic of outreach, our youth are SERVING THE CITY July 27-29, 9 AM to 8 PM. $25 per student covers meals, snacks, transportation, outreach supplies AND a t-shirt! (Think of this as a mini mission trip for your kids, right here at home!) For more information, contact Eric Stoner at email@example.com.
Our next Open Heavens night of worship is Sunday, August 7 at 7 PM. (Our friend Robby Dawkins, author of “Do What Jesus Did” will be with us that weekend, too.) Beginning in September, our plan is to have an Open Heavens on the 2nd Sunday night of each month.
We are always trying to improve our communication. I hope this helps!
P.S. I wanted to pass along a link to a message given by Pastor Rick Warren (Author, “The Purpose Driven Life”) from Saddleback Church in southern California. Rick did a great job of addressing the issues of race in a very timely message. Here is the link: CLICK HERE to watch.
