Just a quick note this week, as we are all deeply involved with the LOVE DAYTON conference downtown.
We had a great training day Wednesday… I was given the opportunity to share with and thank the more than SIX HUNDRED volunteers from all across the country, who have come to Dayton (just to serve our city!) about our vision to love Dayton. I also read the Proclamation issued by Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, naming Wednesday, May 11, 2016 as “Love Dayton Day.”
Thursday and Friday we deployed teams into every part of Dayton to distribute flyers inviting the community to the block party on Saturday at Dave Hall Plaza (the green space at Fourth & Jefferson Streets next to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, across from the Dayton Convention Center.) The tickets handed out are for a free hot dog, chips and bottle of water. The block party will feature gigantic blow-up slides, obstacle course, bouncy castles, a zip line and much more. Should be a great party!
There were so many great testimonies of conversations that took place while canvassing neighborhoods all across Dayton. Many accepted Christ and were healed as people knocked on doors passing out the flyers, loaves of bread and suckers. Teams also picked up trash along the way.
Other teams distributed new mattresses and box fans. We also had a group that assisted with the sorting of 85,000 books for the Read On book drive!
I was with a team that went over to St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church on the west side where the Rev. William Schooler was killed. We went over just to show them support, offer prayer and take care of a few projects around their church.
Tonight and tomorrow night there are services at the convention center where the gospel will be shared by Randy Clark. We are expecting hundreds to accept Christ. We will also be praying for the sick. These meetings are free and open to the public, 7 PM Friday, and Saturday (right after the block party.)
Just so you know, we already have more than enough volunteers for the block party, but you can still stop by to check it out if you are interested.
Just one more item I want to mention to you… This weekend Vineyard 101 starts. People who are new to our church often ask about membership… We call it Vineyard 101. (In the past we have called it, Vineyard Membership Series, Beginnings and Joining the Team.) If you would like to become a formal member of our church, you will want to attend Vineyard 101.
During this three-week series you will have the opportunity to meet some of our staff, hear our history, discuss our vision, ask questions, get connected, and make a few new friends along the way. Starts Sunday May 15, 22 and 29 during the 11:15 service in The Lodge. To register for Vineyard 101 CLICK HERE.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend
P.S. I had a great time last weekend with our friends at Marion Christian Center in Marion, Ohio. I spoke on Friday night and at their service on Sunday morning. I also spent some time with their staff and key leaders on Saturday, helping them galvanize their mission and vision. We had a great time together!
