Over the past several weeks we have been going through our current message series entitled FOCUS. Caleb introduced the series by talking about INWARD… being honest with ourselves regarding our integrity passion, attitudes, and convictions. The following week I spoke about UPWARD, about or value of worship. Then last weekend I spoke about FORWARD, our value of pioneering new ideas like our Hope and Discovery Center.
This weekend, Steve Bowen will be speaking about OUTWARD. Steve is fresh off two recent ministry trips to Florida and Alabama where he was encouraging churches and imparting the gifts and heart to live an outward-focused life. He will be speaking from Proverbs chapter 8, “Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.”
Of course next weekend is Easter. Saturday, March 26th is our big outreach day with not one, not two, but SIX Easter Egg Hunts across our community. (It’s not too late to sign up to serve. You can do that by clicking HERE. We are having a volunteer meeting this Thursday at 7 PM in the Family Center so that we can answer all of your questions prior to showing up at each of the events next Saturday morning. If you’re planning to serve on Saturday, please try to attend this meeting.
I have had a few people ask me if we are doing a Good Friday service this year… We are doing three services for Easter; Saturday at 5:30 PM and Sunday at 9 AM and 11:15 AM. Then, the following weekend on Sunday evening we are doing a special worship service entitled Open Heavens. This service will focus largely on worship.
Romans 12:1-2 talks about presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice and that being our reasonable act of worship. Instead of doing a service on Good Friday night, we are going to give our lives in worship by serving the people of our community on Saturday morning. (We got a call this week that there could be several thousand people showing up at our Page Manor outreach!)
Having said that, if you are interested in commemorating either Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, you might consider pulling a few friends together, sharing a meal and taking Communion together. It could be a very special and meaningful time together.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your friendship and support over these many years. We couldn’t do all that we do without your generosity and willingness to serve. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
