I am really looking forward to seeing all of you this weekend. After spending time in Costa Rica with family and friends, I am refreshed and ready to get back into the swing of things here at home.
In the photo with Marcie and me are two of our sons Adam and Caleb, with their wives, Kristyn, on the far right, and Audrey. (A little known fact… Kristyn is Scott’s second-cousin-once-removed meaning Kristyn’s dad and Scott are second cousins!)
This weekend I will be continuing the series Caleb kicked off, “Relationships That Pass the Tests.” I am going to be speaking about purity. Purity is the best policy. People often confuse love with sex, but they are vastly different. “There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, ‘The two become one.’”
Here is a link to that passage and a few others that are foundational to this week’s message taken from 1 Corinthians chapters 6 and 7. If you would like to preview these scriptures, CLICK HERE. (I will also be referencing several chapters in Proverbs.)
As you know, a few weeks ago I did our annual State of the Church message, outlining our five goals for 2016. One of those goals is to develop our Leader Community. If you are interested in stepping into leadership at any level here at the Vineyard, I wanted to let you know that Scott is hosting a Leader Training/Refresher session, Wednesday, February 3, 7 PM in the Family Life Center, Studio L. This training is for those currently leading AND for those interested in leading (or hosting) a group. He will be covering leadership basics, philosophy and expectations for our leaders. This will be a mixture of nuts and bolts, inspiration, and capturing the heart of leadership. If you would like to attend this training, email Scott at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would love to have you! (It is free and no preregistration necessary for this session.)
I also wanted to let you know that our men’s and women’s ministries start Wednesday, February 24th. The women will be studying “What Love Is” by Kelly Minter (There is also a Tuesday morning women’s group). The guys will be diving into “Honor Among Us” based upon Danny Silk’s book, “Culture of Honor.” We are also going to offer a series on Tuesday nights entitled, “Marriage for a Lifetime” in support of our current message series (We scheduled it on Tuesdays so as to not compete with Wednesdays men’s/women’s groups). Our Barnabas Generation (age 50+) fellowship series kicks off Saturday, February 13 at 10 AM. There are also several home groups, care groups and creative groups starting. There really is something for everyone.
Our website has been updated with all the current groups information. To check out all the various groups and to preregister for certain groups, click on this link: https://www.daytonvineyard.com/get-involved/groups/
People often ask me “What should I do to grow spiritually?” I always suggest three things:
- Attend a weekend service for a corporate worship, teaching and ministry experience.
- Join a small group so that you are connected (any type of group works!)
- Serve in a ministry area. Kids ministry, outreach, worship, prayer, hospitality… whatever suits you and your passion. I suggest attending one service and serving at another. If that doesn’t work for your schedule, you can serve at other times, such as at an outreach or in the pantry, behind the scenes helping with weekend service prep or even helping with our facilities.
I look forward to seeing all of you again this weekend.
