Welcome to my online blog for our Vineyard Life Journal!
This forum IS NOT for debate or to correct each other, but to share our insights and observations. (Actually, I will be keeping a pretty tight rein on the comments section, and I will have the ability to block trolls, spammers or those who just want to stir the pot.)
Before you comment or read what I have posted, read today’s passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… (If you read mine first, it may taint what you think.)

Here is my SOAP for today, Tuesday, March 13, 2018
Deuteronomy 22:21 “You must purge the evil from among you.”
Deuteronomy 23 exclusion and uncleanness
Deuteronomy 24 laws, laws and more laws…
Galatians 4 Hagar and Sarah, slave and free, the Law and the Promise, the flesh and the Spirit.
It seems that under the Law, one could be killed for a hundred different offenses…
But under the Spirit, we are free. It seems pretty obvious that righteousness could NOT be gained under the Law. The Law was too great, too great a burden…
Interesting how Paul uses the history of Hagar and Sarah to make his point about the Law and the Promise.
I wonder what things we do today that are detestable to God? Thinking about a football made of pigskin… about textiles that are blends, vineyards with multiple types of grapes… and perhaps more controversial issues mentioned in today’s reading…
Some things seem ridiculous… but others make sense… perhaps on some sort of sliding scale? Some things obviously are still detestable, such as rape… some things still make sense, like returning your neighbor’s item (ox/sheep, dog/cat).
It can be difficult to apply such matters to our life today. That’s the point Paul is making in Galatians… trying to keep the law is impossible. But what is the timeless principle for us? Love God and love people.
I am hoping my Nike Dri-FIT high-performance, microfiber, polyester fabric shirts are acceptable under the Law… But I should probably add tassels to the corners of each shirt.
Lord I pray that I would have discernment to walk all of this out. That the timeless principles of scripture, even in the Law, would resonate in my heart, applying grace for today.
