Ever had “one of those weeks”? From time to time we all go through a day, weeks, or months like that when nothing goes right and God seems far away. My readings this week brought me to one moments in Israel ‘s journey. I call it the “The Land of the No’s”
The people blamed Moses… “Why have you brought the congregation of the Lord’s people into this wilderness to die, along with all our livestock? Why did you make us leave Egypt and bring us here to this terrible place? [Notice] This land has no grain, no figs, no grapes, no pomegranates, and no water to drink!” (Numbers 20:3-5 NLT)
This land has nothing going for it, maybe that’s why it is called the wilderness. When in the wilderness I can throw a fit, get offended at the Lord, even change teams, so to speak or I can be like Habakkuk.
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! (Habakkuk 3:17-18 NLT)
Even though this season or land has nothing going for it, notice what was there? The Lord!
Moses and Aaron turned away from the people and went to the entrance of the Tabernacle… Then the glorious presence of the Lord appeared to them, (Numbers 20:6 NLT)
Hear this: the glorious presence of the Lord is with you! In your wilderness! In the land of the “no’s” I am going out on a limb, Jesus, our Shepherd, is leading you out of your wilderness. Plan now for a change in seasons.
